Geography comments: "The Bol'shoj Naryn site is located at 53°N and 103°E on the southern coast of the Bratsk Reservoir and further along the abrupt right bank of the Angara River. The hills enclosing the cultural layers previously formed the left bank of the Osa River".
Several charcoal samples taken from the paleosol layers give radiocarbon ages ranging from 25,230 ± 110 BP (upper layers) to 31,460 ± 340 BP (lower layers).

Environment
Lithology: not described

Taphonomic context: human accumulation,paleosol

Archaeology: bone tools,stone tools

Habitat comments: "The general structure of the strata at Bol'shoj Naryn is almost the same everywhere on the site: sandy loess deposits dated to the Sartan glacial stage occur immediately under the modern soil and go down to a depth of 1–2 m; they are underlain by high viscosity paleosol layers up to 1 m thick developed during the Karginian Interstadial".
"The paleosol layers contain numerous stone tools and animal fossils. The number of stone tools and flakes excavated from the paleosol layers amounts to more than 10,000 items, mostly consisting of blades, scrapers and core tools made of quartz. A small number of bone and antler tools were also collected".

Methods
Life forms: carnivores,rodents,ungulates,other small mammals,birds,snails

Sampling methods: quarry,screenwash

Sample size: 2989 specimens

Years: 2004 - 2011

Sampling comments: "The survey area was chosen near the hills, where the finds occurred closely to each other on both sides of a small river with steep banks".
"All the artifacts and animal remains recovered from the paleosol layers were meticulously documented. During the 2010 and 2011 excavations, small mammal remains were collected from paleosol layers 5 cm thick each using water sieving through 1 mm mesh".
"The number of faunal remains totalled 2464 mollusc shells, 111 birds and over 10,800 mammals".
